How to Cure a Cold Overnight

Monkey has a bad cold, but he’s supposed to go to his cousin’s birthday party tomorrow. I’m trying a few things Pinterest recommended for treating a cold to try and cure him by tonight. For the record, I ran Pinterest’s advice through a pharmacist and nurse before trying any of them, so I knew they would be safe for my child. The first thing Pinterest recommends is garlic. I made a garlic spread and put it on toast for Monkey. He loved it!

Next recommendation was vitamin C. The pharmacist recommended 1500 mg for Monkey. Even though vitamin C is water soluble, it’s possible to overdose. A vitamin C overdose will cause diarrhea, and that’s the last thing you need when you’re already sick.

Next up: chicken noodle soup. A few bites into his soup, Monkey was unimpressed with the fact that he was still sick.

Then we tried soaking his feet in warm water. Pinterest said something about changing the circulation to boost healing or some BS like that, but since he doesn’t have a fever, I figured it couldn’t hurt.

Fluids, fluids, fluids! Proof Negative from Freedomizer Radio¬†swears by pineapple juice when he’s sick. He says it has more vitamin C than orange juice. Monkey has a hard time with new flavours, so I bought four different brands with different combinations of fruit juices mixed with pineapple so he can find the one he likes best.

The last one we tried before he refused to cooperate any more was apple cider vinegar. Monkey was NOT HAPPY about this idea. He smelled it and said it smelled like garlic pee and wouldn’t drink it. I took a swig to show him it was fine. I actually enjoy the taste of apple cider vinegar. I think it tastes like apple juice with more of a kick. Monkey trusted me after he saw me drink it, so he somewhat willingly took a sip. Then he started screaming about it being hot and spicy and refused to have anything to do with me for the next 20 minutes. He’s up and playing now though, and before he was just laying on the couch lethargically. He still has a runny nose, but maybe, just maybe, we might have kicked his cold’s butt. I guess we’ll see in the morning.
